The Yeelight is essentially a lamp which can be set at various color combinations with more than 16 million. The desired color can then be adjusted either directly on a touch field on top of the lamp or via a separate app. The housing is made of high quality plastic and everything is meticulously crafted. The lower part is made of aluminum. The lamp housing looks optically like frosted glass, but is also made of plastic and Plexiglas (acrylic). On the upper side are the power button to turn on the lamp and a narrow scene button.
Some standard features of the lamp can also be used without the app. If the lamp is switched on you can switch between the main colors by pressing the scene button. If you draw a circle on top of the touch panel of the lamp with your finger the color can be changed. Furthermore, the small bedside lamp is an alarm clock, a sleep timer and the sleep associated with the Xiaomi Mi Band and Mi Band 1S. The Yeelight can also be connected to a Mi band. The wristband will record your sleep and is able to recognize when you are in the deep sleep. By connecting with the lamp you can turn on the function "Turn off after falling asleep". Once the band detects that you felt asleep your Xiaomi Yeelight will automatically switch off. A great feature!
You can connect with your Mi Account to settings and enter a name for the lamp, set the alarm clock + Sleep Timer and when the lamp should switch on or off daily. Next you can also search for updates, if necessary to update the firmware. On the main screen of the app you can choose between power, choice of colors, standard white and color changes. Power switches the lamp on and off. If you wish to choose a color simply swipe from left to right or vice versa until the desired color is selected. With wipe from top to bottom or vice versa, the brightness / intensity of the light can be adjusted too.
The Yeelight is a really nice gadget. For little money you get a lamp with a lot of functions and it is cheaper than other brand devices, e.g. Phillips. The materials used are of high quality.
