Huami, Xiaomi's exclusive provider of wearable technology, has officially launched its latest smartwatch, an inexpensive Apple Watch lookalike with GPS and heart rate monitor.
The lightweight device comes at just 32 grams or 18 grams without strap. It sports a 1.28 inch, 176 x 176 pixel LCD display, that is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The panel is reflective which preserves battery life as it shows the time even when in standby mode.
In terms of sensors, you’ll find a three-axial accelerometer, geomagnetic sensor, air pressure sensor, PPG heart rate sensor, a GPS and GLONASS module and Bluetooth connectivity.
Amazfit Bip covers the basics when it comes to 24/7 activity tracking. It will keep tabs on your steps, calories, distance, floors, sleep quality and a sedentary alarm. Thanks to GPS, the device also has profiles for outdoor/indoor running, cycling and walking and provides sports specific data for each of these. Finally, just like any self-respecting smartwatch, you can access notifications from a connected smartphone or tablet device.
You can use the device come rain or shine, due to its IP68 water resistance rating. It can even resist underwater immersions.
Where Amazfit Bip really shines though is in its battery life. When in basic activity tracking mode, the 190mAh battery will keep it going for a whopping 4 months. If you use the device to read notifications as well, this comes down to about 45 days. With GPS switched on, you can squeeze 22 hours out of it.
