The Elephone U is an elegant smartphone with 5.99-inch AMOLED screen. From the outside it looks identical to the Elephone U Pro and comes with a metal frame. The handset is powered by a Helio P23 SoC and comes with 4+64GB or 6+128GB variants. Concerning to Elephone, both storage versions can be expanded by up to 1 Terabyte. The Elephone U is based on Android 7.1 Nougat OS and can be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo once the updates are available. In terms of 4G connectivity it supports all major bands and frequencies.
The curved display of the Elephone U is inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S series. The phone has a 2.5D curved 5.99” AMOLED capacitive screen with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels (403ppi). The 10-point multi touch screen is additionally covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Powered by a 64bit MediaTek MT6763 octa-core processor with 2.0GHz it is perfectly suitable for gaming, streaming and surfing the web. The Helio P23 is supported by 4GB or 6GB of RAM. The internal storage has either 64GB or 128GB ROM offering the possibility of expanding through micro SD card of up to 128GB.
On the rear of the Elephone U is a dual camera with a resolution of 13 MP respectively for each its RGB and monochrome sensor. The main camera supports Phase Detection autofocus (PDAF), Bokeh effect and has a dual-tone LED flash. Videos can be recorded with 1080p and 30fps. The front facing camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels. Through FOTA the Elephone U can be unlocked by facial recognition.
In terms of connectivity, the dual SIM phone supports all usual connectivity options such as dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 + BLE, and NFC are included. In addition, sensors such as E-Compass, gyroscope or gravity sensor are also on board the Elephone U. Compared to the Elephone U Pro the cheaper version comes with a larger battery capacity of 3,620mAh. It runs Android 7.1 Nougat with an updated to Android O announced by Elephone for the near future.
